"ORKS" is a sculptural series that directly engages with the Ukrainian wartime lexicon, where the term "orcs" has become a widely used designation for the enemy—Russian invaders. Drawing from both historical and contemporary narratives, the project reflects the collective sentiment of a nation resisting aggression, drawing parallels between modern warfare and past struggles against totalitarian regimes.
The grotesque ceramic heads of orcs serve as both symbolic and literal representations of dehumanized invaders—figures shaped by violence, destruction, and imperialist ideology. The works embody a raw, almost primal energy, mirroring the public’s desire for justice and retribution, much like how past generations confronted fascism.
At its core, ORKS is not just a statement on the enemy but a reflection of war’s ability to define and categorize, to strip individuals of their humanity in the face of conflict. It is a powerful meditation on the psychology of war, vengeance, and the necessity of resistance. The project does not seek to soften or neutralize; instead, it lays bare the emotions of a society at war—anger, defiance, and an unwavering will to fight for survival.
